Gini Wijnaldum received an absolutely thunderous ovation from Rome fans after being presented on the pitch at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
The Europa Conference League winners hosted Shakhtar Donetsk in their final friendly – a peace match for Ukraine – before the Serie A campaign kicks off next week.
Wijnaldum made his debut for the club, coming off the bench in a 5-0 thrashing with Lorenzo Pellegrini, Gianluca Mancini, Nicolo Zaniolo and Edoardo Bove on target – alongside an own goal from Yukhym Konoplya.
Before the match, Jose Mourinho’s squad was introduced one by one to the passionate Giallorossi fans, who made a lot of noise.

The volume was turned up to quite an exceptional level and fans burst into voices as the Wijnaldum – to the tune of ‘This Girl’ from Kungs vs Cookin’ chanted on 3 burners.
When Wijnaldum signed and became Roma’s fifth summer signing, he was greeted by hundreds of fans at the airport.
The Argentine received the same affection when he was introduced to the field on Sunday, as did Tammy Abraham and Nicolo Zaniolo.
The official presentation was streamed live on the club’s social media accounts. Nobody does it like Roma.
Roma kick off the season with an away game against Salernitana on Sunday, August 14, before hosting newly promoted Cremonese in their first home game of the season on August 22.
