Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi would not confirm which monitoring entities are, but emphasized that the USSS is fully cooperating as multiple investigations are underway.
Multiple sources told CNN it is an unusual move to provide personal cell phone numbers of Secret Service agents to investigators.
CNN previously reported that the US Secret Service deleted text messages dated January 5 and 6, 2021. The text messages in question may have been deleted when the agency performed a phone data migration that began on January 27, 2021.
Multiple regulatory bodies, including the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General, the National Archives and the House January Commission, are investigating or requesting more information about the USSS text messages. It’s not immediately clear whether these personal agent cell phone numbers are related to those questions.
“I strongly believe in using this time to oversee and ensure the continued cooperation, responsiveness and full support of our agency regarding ongoing congressional and other investigations,” he said in a message to his staff.
