The hosts pulled one back via an own goal by Alexis Mac Allister, but were unable to find an important equalizer.

Man United were not at the races, with their midfield exposed and fans singled out McTominay, who failed to start in the middle of the park.

He was lucky enough to avoid a red card for his reckless tackle to Moises Caicedo, as Ten Hag went on to drag him off in the 77th minute.

Man United fans expressed their feelings about McTominay’s lackluster performance on social media.

After Man United’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton, Roy exclaimed Keane McTominay, claiming he was not ‘good enough’.

“Fred and McTominay, not good enough,” he told Sky Sports. “They will not let Man United compete at the top.”

The Red Devils will resume their league campaign next Saturday when they face Brentford.
