Multiple bodies and heads dumped along Mexican highway near Acapulco

A clash between cartel shooters led to the discovery of at least six bodies and two severed heads along a highway north of the Acapulco tourist hotspot.

The horrific case took place in the early hours of Friday when authorities in Guerrero state came to the aid of a rural community in Quechultenango. The crime scene is just over sixty miles north of Acapulco.

When authorities arrived at that location, they found a truck that had been shot at and set on fire several times. Near the vehicle, authorities found six bodies and two severed heads.

Guerrero’s attorney general’s office confirmed the finding of the bodies in a prepared statement claiming they would investigate the matter.

The gory crime scene comes as multiple cells of rival drug cartels continue to fight for control of beach corridors to transport drugs from Central and South America to Mexico, control of vast drug farms in remote rural areas, and the large-scale distribution of drugs in and around Acapulco.

Despite several years of intense violence, Acapulco Mayor Abelina López has tried to minimize violence in her city and has even been publicly mocked for claiming that hunger and heat are the cause of most crimes.
