CNN host Brian Stelter said on his show “Reliable Sources” on Sunday that the ongoing federal investigation into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, is “not just a right-wing media story.”
Stelter added that Hunter’s legal peril could jeopardize his father’s chances in his 2024 reelection run.
Stelter said: “Maureen Dowd’s New York Times column this morning basically says that Joe Biden should not run for re-election. This has been a story for months, and it’s getting louder, including from some Democratic lawmakers saying Biden should actually hang it up and say he’s a cripple and won’t run away in 2024. So where do you come up with this as a former employee from the White House?”
Former press secretary to First Lady Jill Biden, Michael LaRosa, said: “I hope he runs. I know he’s going to run. He plans to run, as he has said so many times.”
Stelter asked, “Biden’s age makes it different.”
LaRosa said, “I don’t see why he shouldn’t run. I have heard no reason why.”
Stelter said, “What about his son, and about Hunter? Hunter under federal investigation, charges are due any minute. This is not just a right-wing media story. This is a real problem for the Bidens. Could he decide not to run for re-election, given his son?”
LaRosa said, “Look, they make decisions as a family, and they’ll make that decision when the time comes.”
Stelter asked, “Do you think they’ve already talked about it?”
LaRosa said, “No. The president does his job, and he does his job. He’s not focused on that. It’s 19 months! Why would he do that?”
