The Chicago Bears offence. Those words can be presented to children to teach them the meaning of the word oxymoron.
Of course, the Bears play in an unpredictable climate. By the end of September, summer vacations and anything can happen, leading to treacherous playing conditions at Soldier Field, but there’s no way that’s the only reason their offense hasn’t been able to shift past first gear for most of the past 100 years. Erik Kramer, Jay Cutler, Marc Trestman, Matt Nagy – no one has been able to reverse this offense as Brett Favre and Tom Brady attack winter weather like Homer Simpson on his snow plow.
Justin Fields is the second quarterback the Bears have drafted in five years. No one except Ryan Pace liked the move to select Mitchell Trubisky, but Fields represented most of the hopes that the… Bears have had a quarterback since Jim McMahon was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in the strike-shortened 1982 season. With a top quarterback prospect playing in an offensive built by a person who once called plays for Andy Reid, he had to the ball finally fly through the snow with lake effect.
Instead, the year turned into a disaster. Fields’ biggest problem is holding the ball too long, and the Bears didn’t have the offensive line to make that work. Nagy did so little to make the rookie’s life easier that it could almost be considered malpractice. Things got so bad last year that in Fields’ best performance of the season, Monday night football against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bears lost in what was one of the worst official games I’ve looked in every sport.
The Bears cleaned the house after the season and lost Nagy and Pace. they hired former offensive coordinator of Indianapolis Colts Matt Eberfluss as a coach, but she too brought in Luke Getsy – Aaron Rodgers’ former QB coach – to pull off the attack.

“I think Luke is a great mastermind,” Fields said to NBC Sports’ Peter King. He is a great attacking coach. He’s probably the best quarterback coach I’ve had in my life.”
For example, Fields answered the question “Is this offense right for you?” With all the drama around Jenkins and the Bears’ Bitches perceived lack of depth at the wide receiver, there is real positivity that should finally make Bears fans smile about the team this off-season.
Naturally, Fields wouldn’t say anything negative about the new coaching staff a month before the season starts, but all he had to say is that Getsy is a great coach and he enjoys working with him. He didn’t having to gush about Getsy that way, meaning this season is already off to a much better start than 2021. Last year, Nagy was determined to get Andy Dalton to start the season after the former Cincinnati Bengal did little to nothing with the Cowboys attack in 2020 after Dak Prescott’s injury and failed to reach the playoffs in a division that the then Washington Football Team won with a 7-9 record.
Fields sounds like someone who has started a new job and can finally take a deep breath after leaving a difficult work environment. His game during training camp has gradually improved, and his best practice was on Saturday, when he was without four of his top six wide receivers and three starting offensive linemen. In an exercise called “Move it,” the offense had the ball on their own 30-yard line and had to come within the field-goal range with 55 seconds left on the clock and no timeouts. With plenty of backups on the field, Fields was still able to hit the target.
The regular season is close, but still so far away with the Bears’ first game of the season on Sunday, September 11. It will take half a season to assess his progress, and the Bears are still having some issues. with Jenkins and also All-Pro Roquan Smith’s holdout. Not much is expected of the Bears in 2022, but Fields is feeling as good as his new offensive coordinator and that is probably the best the franchise and its fans can have from a training camp.
Maybe, just maybe, there will be an attack on Soldier Field that finally runs smoothly through the yard. can movein sleet and snow.
